Intellectual Movement
One of the entertainment values of the Drudge Report is obviously the constant updates. Of course, many new stories are added throughout the day. But I think there’s more to it than that. If you follow the Drudge Report through a day, there’s a “movement” or progression that happens. There’s literally the physical movement of headlines around the page. It’s like an intellectual “Where’s Waldo?” as you come back and try to follow up on a headline you saw earlier that day. But then there’s also the progression and rewriting of the headlines themselves. Even though Drudge may keep a particular story as the top headline of the day, you can bet it’ll be spun and rewritten many times through the course of the day.
All of this adds up to a fun, intellectual stimulation game. Even if you don’t care much about the stories of a particular day, it’s enjoyable just to follow the site and entertain your mind.
I’ll post an illustration to follow this up later.
