Yikes! Apparently not everyone has caught on…

OK, guys, hell has truly frozen over. I don’t know what to say about this one, except, no comment.

It’s finally made it to the mainstream media that MSNBC acquired both the Drudge Report and Gawker Media this week.

According to today’s web edition of US Weekly and World Report:

…the merger will enable Drudge to decrease his work hours — currently estimated at 14 hours a day — and collaborate more closely with his new wife, Gawker blogger Jessica Coen. The couple currently divides their time between New York, Miami, and a new “remote office” on a farm near Akureyri, Iceland.

Akureyri is one of the northernmost cities on Earth and warmer than the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. Its summer beauty is conducive to a stress-free work environment for successful freelancers, as well as a visual spot to watch the aurora borealis.

“It’s a great place for 21st Century power couples to escape, unwind and watch hell freeze over together,” says April Fools, Drudge spokesperson.

I should mention that I have a bouncing baby due to arrive any day now. It’s exciting but nerve-racking. You may see a few baby-related posts here from time to time now. And I’ll obviously disappear for several days at some point when the little bugger pops out.

This is a great headline tonight about the LA protests. Anyone notice the phallic building in the photo to match the headline? Probaby just a coincidence. Or maybe I just get too much “enlargement” spam in my inbox that clouds my judgement…

As pointed out by our commenter “Perry Mason,” Matt Drudge has added a link in the right hand column on the Drudge Report: REFRESH DRUDGE REPORT FOR LATEST… It just reloads the page and tacks a dummy parameter onto the URL. He’s obviously concerned about the recent problem affecting Firefox users where his page is getting cached and people are seeing old headlines. Maybe he’s been reading about the problem here on the blog or over at our other site Drudge Forum.

Today’s Drudge headline is combined with a Carnivale-style mask linking to a story on V for Vendetta. Also in the news: quintessentially Drudge stories like a flying cow and a Rugby dude who cut off his own prairie oysters. All in one day?

I think by now I can guess what kind of mood Matt Drudge is in on a certain day (or maybe a full moon in a certain hemisphere is inspiring all that News of the Weird). Do 39-year-old men get hot flashes? Drudge does…and he spreads them, too…

Matt’s milking the middle east for all it’s worth today (say that three times fast). From Iran to Iraq to a new archeological discovery in Israel, to Pat Robertson’s comments on radical Muslims, there’s a traceable theme running along this week…

Of course, that reboots the question about the chicken vs. the egg. Does this reflect his own personal interest in the available news out there, or is it a commentary on the media’s current tide? Probably a little of both…

What with last night being Oscar night, Matt really pulled out all the stops interviewing his regular media guests on the radio show: Camille Paglia, Ann Coulter, and Roger Friedman over a three-hour period. Like with any media outlet or personality, the friendships he’s cultivated impacts the direction of many a Drudge Report…

I’ve noticed that the Drudge Report is getting cached in my browser very often right now. Meaning, when I visit the page throughout the day I have to hit ‘Refresh’ on the browser to actually see the most recent headlines. I haven’t ever had this problem with the Drudge Report. I use Firefox on 2 different computers, so I don’t know if this is a problem with Internet Explorer also. I will keep an eye on it. If anyone has more info, feel free to comment here.

**Update 3/6/06 - I’m not seeing the problem now. It may have been a temporary problem with his server. We’ll see.
