Digg: The Opposite of Drudge Report
I’ve found a site that I believe is the polar opposite of the Drudge Report. Whereas the Drudge Report is entirely a one man show, edited by Matt Drudge, Digg is published entirely by the community.
The only way that news stories make it to the Digg homepage is by the site’s users voting by way of “Diggs.” Stories must have a minimum number of Diggs to get automatically moved to the homepage. And all stories are submitted by Digg users. But the stories stay buried unless the community likes them and promotes them to the homepage.
It’s a lot of tech geek stories mixed in with the news now, probably just reflecting the makeup of Digg’s user base. But this is 100% community publishing. It definitely lacks the flair and personal edge of an editor-driven site, but it’s worth checking out and keeping an eye on…
