Greg, I have no way of knowing anything about that. My expertise comes from research on Drudge's press and my own background in PR and media. We don't pretend to have any inside political connections nor be affiliated with Matt Drudge.

That said, I personally don't put any stock into anything that appears on WorldNet Daily. But that's a separate issue.

I'm a big Drudge fan too. Now there's nothing good on Sunday night radio. Have you been able to find out the "real" reason Matt Drudge left radio? And so suddenly? I'm very curious!!!

Thanks!

Hey Rego, the lead paragraphs are the key difference, not quite same-o same-o. That's where the key real news is. Drudge has been getting "scoops" from Clinton yeah we all know that, knew that about GOP candidates too. The unusual, newsy aspect was how the NYT explained that it wasn't just that Clinton's camp gave Drudge one particular fundraising "scoop," it was in the Clinton camp's motivation for that "scoop" -- to be timed specifically to appear on Drudge to trump Obama, distract from his speech. That's not same-o same-o observation that Drudge gets specific scoops from presidential candidates, it goes instead to WHY he gets those scoops and how they benefit the camp doing the leaking. And the first few paragraphs are written in a way that sort of -- but not totally -- disguises the fact, or doesn't raise the question in most readers' minds, that there is only one place that could have clued the NYT in on what the Clinton camp's motivation for leaking that scoop to Drudge had been and that the Clinton camp had been successful in pulling it off. (Clinton's camp, of course. Unless the lead paragraphs explaining what the Clinton camp had been doing and its motivation for doing it were entirely fabricated by the NYT, which I doubt. It's like bragging about a conquest -- look what we did!)

Would it be possible if you could post the audio clip of Matt's tirade on the Warren Buffet quote, or direct me to it? If yes, then thank you profusely. And thanks for the blog -it's been alot of fun reading it over the years.

Jon: I didn't mention it in this particular post, no...but I mentioned it in a comment back I made early this morning on the "Unsexy Truth" post.

It IS interesting. I just had to wrap it up because this post is SO long as it is.

Matty's not dead...yet.
He's just going to Australia.

I was kind of surprised that you didn't make
any mention of something that Matty *wasn't*
really willing to talk about in detail on his last
regular show...although he did make sure to
at least work in a small mention.

We can only dream about what Matty really
meant when he mentioned the "other projects".

He'll be back....bigger and better than ever.

Perhaps Drudge should have signed off with this song.

Well, he hinted on that on his final broadcast, didn't he?

Looks like my speculation was on the money! After being taken out of context by silly gossips, the reasons I've offered all September...which I've discussed in previous posts...are exactly what he described on the last show. Okay. I've done my little "Told You So" dance of joy.

My post above reads that it was WITHIN THE REALM OF POSSIBILITY but OUTSIDE THE REALM OF PROBABILITY.

It raised my eyebrows. It got me thinking. But I also have an active bullshit detector. If Matt Drudge himself somehow decided I was worth contacting (VERY MUCH within the realm of possibility but far outside the realm of probability)you can bet on it I'd be checking the ISP,the spelling and content...or if I heard his voice, I'd say "prove it," or, even if someone were in front of me claiming to be him, you can bet I'd be checking the height, eye shape, and facial hair pattern.

It's not about being literal, but being legalistic: not accepting conclusions that haven't been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, and also stopping short of the slippery slope of assumptions that occur when journalists play the "my sources said this" game...

And I'm not saying that the poster was definitely from New York mag, but that there are other possibilities besides the poster being Drudge. And some untraceable poster could still be from the Intelligencer, even though it works for the same mag as Philip Weiss, or could be someone else interested in stirring something up.

Just to be clear -- I said he *usually* types such online correspondence in all caps and *usually* it contains at least one glaring misspelling. But Rego, sometimes you stick so literally to everything he has said or done in the past it makes me wonder whether you can allow for even the slightest deviation --surely it's within the realm of possibility that he can and has written off a two- or three-sentence online correspondence without all caps and without a misspelling? The poster is *not* from NY Mag. He takes a backhand swipe at the competence of the mag's million-word piece on him. I assure you the writer and editors were not seeking for Matt Drudge (or anyone pretending to be him online, especially if it was one of them!) to say the serious-toned piece they invested lots of time, money, and print space into producing was "a riot!".
